IFIP TC4

The International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP), a general computer-oriented group of researchers, established “Technical Committee 4” (there were many such committees -- “TC1” was to study “the foundations of computer science”, “TC2” to study “software in theory and practice; “TC12” is “artificial intelligence”) to study “health informatics.”

While originally composed mostly of computer scientists, since IFIP was a computer science organization, TC4 made a special effort to recruit medical specialists, since they knew where the path of “health informatics” could lead, if not how to get there.
